To Don Quixote, his adventures are more than simply the manifestations of a deluded mind. They are even more than a hobby, pastime, or role-playing experience. His adventures transcend all of those levels by the fact that he is conscious of the fact that his progress will be documented in a written work and that this tradition of family chronicles and chivalric biographies was practiced by real knights. In effect, although he is not the author, he is writing and constructing his own chivalric tale through his actions. The problem is that he is attempting to create a biography that is fantastical in nature. Although Cervantes reveals the third person omniscient perspective to the reader, in which the real world and Don Quixote’s imaginary world are shown parallel, Don Quixote’s intent is to be remembered through writing as a valiant knight.
